Life Coaching for Young Adults
It’s hard being a human - It’s even harder being a human and a young adult!
FACT - It’s chaos out there and it’s complex inside our minds - no wonder we have times where we struggle to cope!
FACT - Many of our thoughts and feelings are great to experience! We feel happy, safe, confident, protected, wanted and loved.
FACT - Others are not so great. It’s those not so great thoughts and feelings can anchor you in a place where you find yourself experiencing anxiety, confusion, lack of enthusiasm, low mood, loneliness, self-doubt and lots more painful stuff. It can seem as if there’s no way out.
FACT – There is a way to untangle yourself from the thoughts and feelings that keep you stuck!
We all experience struggles in life. The combination of being alive, human and a young adult means you will definitely struggle as you begin to navigate the adult world.

Life Coaching
What's that all about?

Many young adults I speak to don't have the foggiest about coaching - haven't heard of it, or think it has something to do with sports. That would be a correct answer however the sort of coaching I'm referring to doesn't take place on a sports court but rather in the arena of life and is therefore known as life coaching. Just as a sports coach would work with a a person to improve their skill set within their chosen field of sport, a life coach would team up with a person who generally feels fine but is at a crossroads in life and maybe wanting a change or to improve current circumstances and increase success. In these circumstances, opting for coaching would definitely be a better fit for your needs.
If you do opt for coaching, you probably don’t need as much insight, emotional support, or healing. You just need to get clarity, make a plan, and take action! This means my role as a coach would be to work alongside you within a creative thinking process that inspires you to be the best that you can be. In a nutshell, coaches work with people who strive to improve their circumstances in order to enrich their future.
How does a coach do this?
-
Coaches use constructive skills to help you get from point A to point B by identifying your strengths and values, and encouraging you to come up with solutions. We ask lots of questions to press you to look for solutions to your challenges so you become stronger and confident at resolving future issues.
-
Coaches help clients learn new skills and tools to build a more satisfying successful future.
-
Coaches focus on developing strengths that will lead to a happier and more fulfilled life.
-
Coaches consistently help clients to focus in on the future.
Coaching is appropriate for many different issues ranging from dealing with relationship/friendship/family issues, anxiety and stress, exercise and diet, health issues, weight loss, public speaking, confidence building, study skills, motivation and so on.
The Coaching Process:
Coaching involves a more specific, narrower focus than counselling and generally works in the following way:
Define vision – establish the desired results/outcomes.
Identify changes – pinpoint the behaviours that will lead to those outcomes.
Determine strengths and values – understand the influences on that individual’s behaviour.
Identify obstacles in you way- develop strategies for overcoming them
Develop a plan- to start and ensure desired behaviours continue
Monitor progress – track and celebrate successes!
In coaching, improvement is rapid and the progress is usually enjoyable for both the coach and the coachee. The very specific and tangible goals and focus on action and outcome make it easy to attain a sense of achievement which is very satisfying and empowering.
I describe my own particular brand of life coaching as a cross between a coach and counsellor (known as a personal consultant) and teacher. When coaching, I utilise all my skills and training to ensure you get the best possible support and opportunity to be your best self.
I meet with clients on a weekly basis and offer coaching sessions in person, or via Skype. A typical session runs between 60 and 75 minutes. All sessions end with a specific simple action step to accomplish in the week that follows. Each coaching session is tailored to the specific needs of the coachee.

“Just because things haven’t worked for you in the past does not mean that they won't in the future.
You are capable of making change happen. Sometimes, to get to where we want to be, we have to experience what's not working
AND ...
Just because you haven't achieved yet doesn't mean there's something wrong with you - You are not the problem. You just don't have the tools and insights you need yet. The past is gone; today is a new day; make a fresh start".

Life Coaching and Counselling are not the same. Should I consider counselling?
If you are feeling really bad, struggling with self-doubt, anxiety, depression, negative core beliefs, trauma, unfinished business with the past, intense emotions, painful relationships, or addictive behaviours and really have no idea how to help yourself feel better, then it makes sense to meet a counsellor. What you need at this stage is compassionate support from a professional qualified counsellor who will create a safe space for you to delve into the past and begin to heal and grow.
In counselling, the progress is generally slow and painful because the issues are often buried in the subconscious and take time to uncover and understand. Having the courage and determination to push through the discomfort can be deeply freeing and fulfilling.
